Building a big game in one month is hard! ;)
My challenge during the Devtober was to build a fully running Demo and - drums - it didn't work out as planned. I changed the main theme from "soulslike" to RPG after the first week and then changed the complete combat system after the second week which screwed me completely!
But I continued to work on the project and I've learned a lot while doing so. I had a lot of fun, which was the main point anyways!

1. Focus on planning
2. Know your genre
3. Keep the scope SMALL
4. Focus on the core mechanics
5. Take your time to create clean code
6. Playtest your game
7. Know your games identity
8. Create your core game loop first
9. Build your game frequently
10. Focus on what you love!
